Heykel–Teferruc Cable Car Project

Heykel – Teferruc Cable Car Project bridges the city’s historic center at Heykel with the Teferruc station at the foothills of Uludag, creating a vital urban link that respects the heritage of the site while addressing modern public needs. In Heykel, the design navigates the complex level changes of the historical square, offering a porous and accessible gateway that activates the street level with social spaces and pedestrian walkways. This approach ensures that the station doesn’t act as a barrier, but rather as a multi-level transition that encourages movement between the square and the station’s internal functions. Moving toward the mountain, the Teferruc station introduces a much-needed public square and lush green zones designed for the entire neighborhood, serving as both a community hub and a transition point where users move between buildings for the final ascent. These new landscaped areas provide essential breathing room for the local residents, offering recreational spots and gathering points that were previously missing in the dense urban fabric. By integrating these parks into the station’s layout, the walk to the cabins becomes a scenic experience that blends the built environment with the surrounding nature. This cohesive architectural journey is defined by a simple, industrial material palette, utilizing travertine at the base for durabilityglazed surfaces for transparency, and a structural steel frame, all wrapped in a semi-translucent perforated screen that provides a lightweight, modern finish to the entire ensemble.
