Alacati Amphitheater, Windmills & Square Design
Cesme, Izmir
This project revitalizes key public areas in central Alacati: the historic windmills, the upper square, the amphitheater, and the lower square along Ataturk Boulevard.
The iconic windmills will be transformed into public art spaces, and the underused upper square will feature green areas and a children’s playground. Visitor comfort is improved with new WC and kiosk facilities. The amphitheater, connecting the windmills to the town center, will be redesigned with better seating, backstage, and service areas to support cultural events.
A new pedestrian alley links Ataturk Boulevard to the amphitheater, with the Ataturk Monument relocated for visibility. The adjacent building will host the Alacati Visitor Center, and a new public park will include gardens, an herbal area, and art spaces.
Two parking options are proposed: improved on-site or underground. The project also enhances pedestrian access and integrates street art along the retaining wall. Reviving the Alacati International Sculpture Symposium and using sustainable materials will support ongoing public art in the area.
