Baghdad Branch Hospital and Hotel Complex
Baghdad, Iraq
Located on the banks of the Tigris River in Baghdad, this hospital and hotel complex is a mixed-use project designed to strengthen the city’s healthcare infrastructure while integrating accommodation, religious, and social functions. The hospital and hotel blocks are conceived as a unified whole, with clearly separated pedestrian and vehicular entrances that provide distinct circulation scenarios for emergency services, hotel guests, and mosque users. Visual connections with the river and sunken gardens that introduce natural light and ventilation enhance overall spatial comfort.
The complex has a total construction area of approximately 63.000 square meters, about half of which is allocated to the hospital. The hospital is equipped with advanced facilities including burn and oncology centers, operating rooms, intensive care units, outpatient clinics, and radiology departments. The hotel occupies approximately 15.000 square meters and offers 100 rooms for patients, their relatives, and visitors, supported by restaurants, meeting spaces, and rooftop terraces. Complementary program elements such as the mosque and commercial units serve both complex users and the surrounding urban community.
Architecturally, the project balances the rational and orderly character of healthcare buildings with the more welcoming and social atmosphere of the hotel. Transparent façades, terraces, and landscape elements strengthen the relationship between the building, the river, and the city, while separated entrances and circulation cores ensure operational efficiency. Overall, the project emerges as a contemporary urban focal point that successfully integrates healthcare and hospitality functions while generating social and spatial value.
